My PortableApps List

Are you frustrated with public computers that don't have your favorite application installed? Fortunately, there are applications that you can install onto your USB flash drives and carry them with you. These applications are packaged as PortableApp that you cab find at portableapps.com. The selection of PortableApps available is growing in number and they are usually newer than U3 packages. With ever growing capacity of USB flash drives, you can pack your USB flash drive with as many PortableApps as you want. Here's my list of PortableApps that I've used and found useful so far.

OpenOffice.org on Portable USB drive

My favorite Office suite is OpenOffice.org which is free and fully functional alternative to Microsoft Office 2007. If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend OpenOffice.org to you.

However, OpenOffice.org is not widely available on computers in offices, cafe, schools and airports. In case you want to use OpenOffice.org on public computers without OpenOffice.org installed, you can install OpenOffice.org onto your USB flash drive beforehand, carry it with you wherever you go, and run OpenOffice.org from the USB thumbdrive. OpenOffice.org can be installed on USB thumbdrives of minimum 512 MB space. There are 2 portable releases of OpenOffice.org:

• U3 release of OpenOffice.org
  
  This version is outdated 2.2.0.0 and cannot be run on non-English versions of Windows.
  
• PortableApps.com release of OpenOffice.org
  
  This version is the latest 3.0.1 and can be run on all versions of Windows and also on Linux. Thus, I recommend PortableApps.com release.
